Mediatek Kobo bluetooth control

Hello, does anyone know how to manage bluetooth on the Kobo Clara BW outside Nickel?

using `dbus-monitor --system` I can see configuration messages printed when managing bluetooth via the settings ui
I found old/pre-bluetoothcli bluez utils like hciconfig in the device tree but I can't get them to see the radio or do anything
There is a script /usr/local/Kobo/launch-mtkbtd.sh which starts mtkbtd and bluetoothd. These create a fifo /tmp/bt_cmd_fifo and a socket (I forget its name) but I can't figure out if/how I can use them. There's character devices in /dev too which seem to be provided by the driver drivers/mt8113t-ntx/mt66xx/wmt_cdev_bt.ko

did you ever get anywhere with this? having the same luck with a kobo libra color and trying to get a bluetooth page turner working for a disabled friend.
