Side question, I have seen some github pages explaining how to find a direct download link for our readers. Unfortunately I never understood how to find some device specific information.

Is this technic still ok?

Just don't forget that if you have any problems with text formatting in NeoReader, then disable version 3 of the engine in its settings, it's still in "beta".

They just up the version number of the engine, but it keeps being unfinished, it seems. The advice used to be to disable v2, now it's disable v3. I wonder why they keep including it when it mostly seems to cause problems?

In other news, yes I have updated my white Palma 1. Now notifications on the notification bar have an ugly black frame around the app icon. As for the UI I haven't noticed much of a difference since I hardly use it - I spend most of my time in reading apps and I've set KISS as my main launcher.

The most important thing for me was that they finally fixed the occasional double/triple page turns when pressing volume down in a reading app. I love using the volume buttons for navigation, and really dislike tapping the screen for that, so I hardly read on my Palma until this update.

Still waiting for it to arrive to my Go 10.3.

But honestly, I'd rather they worked on fixing the ghosting issues on the Note Max. They are brutal and really make it feel like a beta device. Hopefully, that's where all their efforts will go once the 4.0 firmware has been rolled out completely.

Yeah, it all still works.
To get the beta version release you have to be subscribed.

For instance, the Go6 has never had a mainstream update.
There is a beta release from February.

Any release that has been released can be downloaded.
Versions that have never been released can not be downloaded.

It will tell you the last full update and possibly an incremental update.

Ok, but no way to access the previous updates like 3.5.4, 3.5.3, etc...

Not unless you had the foresight to write down the links when they were visible.
I checked, you can't seem to query for older versions even if you have the old fingerprint.
I haven't heard that Onyx actually purges old files

I can see that I could still download Poke3 version 3.1 from 2021-03-17.

After allowing this update (2025-03-26_18-14_v4.0-rel_2aa96eb60), I ended up rolling back to factory defaults. Issues experienced:
1. Stroke width changed across all notebooks to .10mm (or something close to that)
2. Notebook templates appear to be broken; the template layer kept changing to "template_null" regardless of what stock or custom templates I used, and exported PNGs always showed the template layer regardless of what I did (hide layer, delete template file, etc.)
3. One notebook got renamed during an export

Edit: hmm, after rolling back, I see that while it wiped the BOOX and reset everything, the version has not changed. Grr.
Edit2: and after importing my notebooks, issues #1 & 2 remain. Argh.
Edit3: found a workaround, can change the notebook template to blank prior to export, and now PNGs will have no template layer.

Yep, I did not know about the download links before so... That's won't be possible for me.

But thanks to your edl tool, I have backups back to 3.5.1. So should be fine.

I started playing around with upx decryption. Let's see what I can get out of it. I guess nothing more than with an edl backup.

I see that they still haven't fixed the full refresh in NeoReader on my Go 10.3 with this update. There's way too much ghosting after a screen turn with a full update enabled. Turning a screen without it enabled and then manually refreshing the screen using a gesture fully gets rid of the ghosting.

I just can't understand why they can't fix this since the manual refresh obviously clears all ghosting.

Luckily other apps work better...

Obviously they don't rotate the history pane when the screen rotates.

Eink is black magic. To handle a refresh you have to know all the previous states of the pixels and the exact temperature.

It seems that they are falling down on the job by rotation.
