Libra Colour Weird whitespace

I've been tweaking an existing .epub file and getting some weird bugs when the file is read by my device. Chiefly, that sometimes a large whitespace is added between words, mainly when a word joiner character is nearby. The weird part is that this isn't consistent. At times the whitespace is of normal length, at other times is twice or thrice as large, and other times is five (or so) times as large. I haven't been able to see why this happens and how can I fix it. These bugs only happen in my Kobo device, not in my laptop's epub reader, which means that the file is fine.

Are you sending the ebooks as ePub or kepub? If kepub, try switching to ePub to see if the issue still appears. Some of those white spaces appear to be poorly executed justification choices.

If you are using calibre 8+, go into the configuration for the KoboTouch driver and on the 2nd tab (Collections, covers & uploads), remove the checkmark from Use Kobo viewer for EPUB books. This will have your books sent to your Kobo without the conversion to kepub.

Indeed, the problem only exists on the .kepub.epub version. The plain .epub works just fine.

There is no hyphenation. That and the default of wider spacing in KePub can make the gaps rather large.

The problem is not many large gaps between words in a single line. The problem is inconsistent spacing. Mostly one big gap between a dash and the next word. I'm pretty certain that, if there were to be hyphenation, the problem would still persist.
