Looks interesting, so I downloaded as azw3 to my old Kindle which has no payment method. Has 1c credit. Occasionally I send that account a gift card, or "gift" a Kindle ebook to the account, but that doesn't seem to work for pre-orders. A pre-order seems to need a payment method and can't be "gifted".

It looks very promising, and there are 10 more in the series. It's influenced by Wilkie Collins, (the author reveals), so it should have a Victorian flavor to it, along with a bit of mystery.

The title is a bit of a give-away

I hope you enjoy the stupid games Amazon plays with graphics in eBooks. Amazon recompresses, reduces the resolution, and removes color.
