Downloading metadata from Amazon

Since I don't live in the USA, I've been using Canada as the Amazon country to use when download Amazon metadata. Oddly, it still shows as downloading from Amazon.com not Amazon.ca. I have several French language books which would not download metadata from Amazon despite the ASIN being present. So I tried changing the Amazon country to use to when downloading metadata to France. I also tried with amazon.co.uk. No metadata was returned but when I looked at the log, it seemed to show that Amazon.com was being used as the server no matter what country I selected. I was expecting that amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk or amazon.fr would be used as the site to fetch the metadata.

This was part of the search log for Canada, France and UK selected as the country. All 3 were identical in the Amazon section.

Is that ASIN for the French edition?

Yes, the same ASIN on Canada, France, UK and USA.

What I am wanting to know is just what selecting the country in configuring Amazon metadata download is supposed to do since the actual search log results seem to show that only amazon.com is used. If nothing else, I hoping that switching to a different Amazon TLD would help with the 503 errors that Amazon seems overly fond of.

It's entirely probable that I am totally wrong as to what changing the country in the Amazon metadata plugin does though from the log results using either Amazon servers or Automatically select, it appears to do nothing.

If you are using an ASIN, it will override the choice of country since ASINs are country specific. Delete the asin/amazon identifier from the book metadata and then do the download you will see it using the country specific servers.

While some ASIN's may be country specific, I couldn't find any ASIN for English language books on Amazon.com or Amazon.ca that were different. I ended up editing all the mobi-asin: to amazon_ca: and that seemed to allow downloading metadata from the .ca servers.
