Genre... sorted by date?
Is there anyway to create a custom Genre so that when browsing books in said Genre: books appear sorted by date?

You can click on the column heading to sort by date once you click on the genre tag.
Or do you want something different?

Add the Sort by tool to a toolbar or menu, use the Select sortable columns action to select the columns you are ever likely to sort on, and then use the Sort by multiple columns action set and save different sort sequences.

I have Sort by in the Search toolbar :
