Kindle help!
Anyone know of a tool I can use to get the book covers to show in my library? I side loaded through calibre, using azw3 format and send to device, but no covers show in library. Some will show on lock screen. I know Amazon has messed with this but has anyone figured out a way to get the covers to show? I third party tool that may work? I like to have the covers, it looks much nicer. I have also downloaded the same books on a friends kindle paperwhite signature edition(same as mine but maybe a year older) and most of the covers appear in her library

Any of the newer Kindles that use a MTP connection do not expose the system folder which makes it impossible to update the thumbnails which is how calibre worked around the original Amazon cover bug. If you send the ebooks with a PDOC cdetype, you should see the covers. However calibre will currently do this for mobi and the KFX output plugin will do this for KFX output however KF8/azw3 will require you to run a Python script to modify the files.
One friend of mine is currently using calibre to save his azw3 files to a single folder, running the script and then copying them to his PW 12th gen. You can find the script on GitHub at: ebook_cdetype_to_pdoc |

I’m fairly new to all this. If I use mobi format instead will the covers show? Or how do I do it the way you explained?
What is the send to kindle website? I have both epub and azw3 formats on calibre. |

You would have to convert the ebook to mobi with the PDOC option selected. Unfortunately, mobi is an old format and has limited font options, extremely limited CSS and limitation on images which must be sized in absolute measures (no setting an image to 25% of width for instance).
Send to Kindle is an Amazon service. You can send to Kindle from calibre but that needs setting up a email relay using a service such as GMX, a Sent to Kindle app (I've palyed with StK for Windows) or using the Send to Kindle website (the one I use for testing is https://www.amazon.ca/sendtokindle. Note that I am using Amazon's Canadian website so the .ca TLD. There are almost religious arguments about whether using StK where Amazon retains a copy of the ebook in their cloud is an acceptable security risk. |

Only format that supports covers on newer Kindles is .kfx. If you use their app .epub and any other format will be converted to .kfx. Often this comes with quality problems regarding images and covers. You can also convert files to .kfx format yourself. If they're converted via 'personal document' tag, covers and thumbnails will show in the Kindle when they are sideloaded. |
