Question about "Search Indexes"

Hi!

I noticed that as time goes "Search Indexes" folder in "System" grows bigger and bigger, even if some books was deleted. Normally it wouldnt bother me, cause I don't delete books (they don't take up much space anyway). But it's different story with manga/comics.

So I've got few questions:

1. Does Kindle automatically recheck Search Indexes with time? And reduces its size? And if yes, then how often Kindle does it?

2. Is it safe to delete Search Indexes folder?

3. I saw some threads about disabling indexing, by removing whole Search Indexes folder and then adding there a file with same name. People even said that it made their Kindles work much faster + less battery drain.
But these threads was from years ago. Does it still works? And can it cause some negative effects etc, etc?
