New Install Won't Uninstall Old One

Hi, all.

I have Windows 10. I successfully installed Calibre 7.26.0. The installation did not remove Calibre 7.21.0. Revo Uninstaller shows version 7.21.0 still exists and it takes up 562 MB. When I try to uninstall version 7.21.0, the message displayed is "The installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." It seems to me that there is only one application folder, C:\Program Files\Calibre2. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

If you go to the Previous calibre releases page, you can find previous calibre releases there. You can try to download and re-install the .msi file for calibre 7.21.0 and then try installing 7.26.0 over it.

On a different topic, I would never let Revo Uninstaller near a computer I was using. Several people I knew who used it ran into issues where files that were used by other programs were removed and I've had fun repairing the damage.

David,
I did download the 7.21.0 msi file from Previous calibre releases and when I click on it, I get the same message.

You could try renaming the Calibre2 directory in the Program Files directory, restarting and then trying the install again. Your library and configuration live outside that directory so should not be affected. If the install works, you can deleted the original directory.

Is one of those a 'Portable' install?
Those will probably not show up in the apps to remove list, since they technically do not 'install' (attach to the OS).

I sure don't trust 3rd party 'uninstaller' apps to not get something it should not have. (not every program does their install fully, logged, dependencies)

Revo was useful on XP providing you stuck to the least aggressive option, but the need for it went away with Vista.

David,
I tried renaming the Calibre2 directory and installing Calibre 7.26.0 again. What worked for me was using Glary Utilities Uninstall Manager. I uninstalled version 7.21.0 first. Then I used Programs and Features to uninstall Calibre 7.26.0. Afterwards I installed 7.26.0 again. So far, no problems! Thanks for your suggestions. And thanks to all for your contributions.
