Exclamation Kindle Paperwhite PQ94WIF Charging Issue Low Battery Screen Stuck

Hi everyone, first time posting, so let me know if this is the wrong place, or if I should be doing something different.

I'm having an issue with charging my Kindle Paperwhite. I think I have a unique set of symptoms after searching the internet for common problems with the Kindle regarding charging and batteries.

I've had it for about 5 years, but haven't touched it for at least 3 years. I went to use it the other day, and obviously the battery was drained. I charged it and it went up to 100% overnight. Good sign. I went to use it again the next day and it had drained to 25% after attempting to use it, and then went to, "low battery, your kindle needs to recharge before use," and has been stuck in this mode even after attempting to recharge by leaving it plugged in overnight again.

I've noticed when I attempt to recharge either in a wall outlet, in a computer, with different cables or charging bricks, it either doesn't show it is charging, no orange/amber light, or if it does start to charge, the orange/amber light disappears after about 15seconds. Also, when I plug it into my PC (Windows 10), it does not show up under devices even when the charge indicator is on for the small amount of time it is on.

I've tried to hard reset by holding the power button down for 40 seconds, to no avail multiple times.

I've also noticed when it is plugged in, either wall or PC, it feels warm near the charging port even when the charging light turns off. Not hot, just warm like it is receiving power.

I've tried to open it up and perhaps detach and reattach the battery to the board, and also tried to clean the charging port, but it looks clean.

I think at this point, it is the battery perhaps being too far gone from 0 usage for years, and possibly something wrong with the charging port? My next troubleshooting step was to leave the battery disconnected from the board to see if I could restart the system somehow before attempting to change the battery. If that doesn't work, then I'm not too sure how to proceed if there is something wrong with the charging port. I like to open things up and try to see how things work, so if there is a video I can reference to replace the port or somehow fix it, I would be inclined to try.

Any ideas? Let me know if pics would be helpful or if any other info is needed.

Thanks!
Nick O.

The battery is most likely dead. If the voltage got too low then it can physically damage the battery.

Yea, after thinking about it, I'm going to try to replace the battery and see if that works. I'll update once I get it.

Thanks!
