Mysterious Forma freeze-up
Here’s one y’all might like to take a crack at. I’ve had a Kobo Forma for about three years, no issues, love it. A few weeks ago I downloaded a Libby book that wouldn’t open, Kobo crashed on the book cover every time I opened it. Never had that happen with any book before. Could be a coincidence, but from what seems like about that time I’m getting crashes/freezes all the time — the front light goes off and no response to touch or buttons. I’ve figured out toggling WiFi on will definitely crash it. With WiFi off I can open a book and read normally but if I do much with the menus or searching in the book for instance, another crash. Weird to me, doesn’t make much sense. Battery seems about normal, lasts a good while with just reading, which I mention because here’s the last piece: everything behaves fine while plugged in to power. No crashes. Would love any insight anyone has on this. I suppose it’s had a good life but I’d love for it to last a while longer.

Have you tried to factory reset it?

Try plugging it into power outlet and hold down ON/OFF button until it does a cold reboot.

Yep been through many factory resets, including the hold the page turn button down while holding the power button one. Couldn’t have used it since it updates when you sync, but tried an older firmware just to see. Went through several suggestions from customer support — they were very nice but in the end all they could do was offer a discount on a new one. If that’s called a cold reboot I’ve done that many times too, since it has to be connected to power to boot up once it’s frozen.

You did remove the problematical book and not put it back on your Forma?

Yes, thanks. Getting all the crashes with it wiped clean after the factory reset.
