Spellcheck window issue
The Spellcheck window has a couple of things:
- Won't remember position and size from one start of Sigil to the next. - When you try and resize the columns they work from the right side of the column to the left. - Every time you use 'Change Selected Word To' the columns reset to before they were adjusted. Using Sigil ver 2.3.1 on windows 11. Paul |

It does work for me unless I try to shrink it below its preferred size. This is true of all windows in Sigil.
As for which order columns expand when dragging, I am not sure if that can be controlled but will look into it. That dialog is set to always automatically resize the columns when the list of words is changed to fit the longest word on the list. |

The spellcheck widget retains its size and position for me on Windows 10. I've not gone to either extreme (tiny, huge), but there's quite a range it works fine with for me.

The only columns I can resize are Count, Language, Misspelled? and they are resized each time the list refreshes they are the columns resized. whatever is left over size wise is assigned to the Word column regardless of how wide the words are. It also appears that the window resize issue may be a result of monitors going to sleep and I am using a dual monitor setup. I guess if thats the way it's supposed to work I'll deal with it. Paul |

I use the Qt Linguist-Standalone https://github.com/lelegard/qtlingui...llers/releases (a newer version of Qt Linguist standalone has been in beta for PortableApps.com, but I haven't tried it) to edit the language file, eg. …Sigil\translations\sigil_en.qm – look for Spellcheckeditor --> Misspelled --> change the phrase to something shorter and export back (NOT "Save" or "Save As"!) It's really just a two minute job, but you probably should try your hand at a copy of the language file before "going live". Regards, Kim |

Wow! that worked great.
Took me a while to figure out how to do it. And yes I did it with a copy. Since it was in the Program files I had to move it to a temp directory in order to save it. Yes I said 'save' it. Apparently they have taken the 'export' function out of QT linguist. Changed all of the columns on Spellchecker and made them smaller. Now I have a lot more room and can make the window skinnier. Thanks for everyone's help. You are all magnificent and my new hero's. Paul |

Are you guys really that pressed for screen real estate? I'm thrilled you found something that works for you, but the result seems to me like a long, beautiful driveway that leads to a rather unimpressive house. *shrug*

Fair enough. Just know that most of my Sigil testing/usage takes place on a 13" Inspiron laptop. Mainly so I can check that dialogs and widgets are still useable at that size.

If it will help, we could change the word "Misspelled" to "Error" or "Wrong" or "Typo" or "Bad" but we have no control over the length of the word chosen by various translators. A more descriptive explanation could be added to a Tooltip.
Just let me know if any of those would be better. Last edited by KevinH; 12-18-2024 at 01:22 PM. |
