using the client with the server on a NAS
Hello,
Sorry if this was already answered somewhere, but is it possible to us the calibre app to connect to a remote server ? If yes i planned on setting up my current library on my NAS and access it through a dedicated subdomain. I love the client app as it make it super easy to do stuff like managing my e-reader. So if i could tell my client to look for the library over there it would be awesome. I'd then be able to access it on more than just my main PC and i'll be able to use it as the family library without them needing access to my PC. Thanks a bunch ! |

Calibre is NOT a client-server app.
Do not try and use the Calibre Desktop with ANY kind of remote drive There are folk who have the Content Server running on a NAS (docker?), But that is accessed via a Web Browser and the Library there is a Copy . There lies the issue: There is no SAFE way to sync changes. There can only be one Master for changes. |

ok ! Thanks for the info !
So then would it make more sense for me to keep my library on my PC, and have a script that sends it to the NAS for a read only copy that others use ? and if i need to sync my e-reader on another of my PCs, pull the copy on that laptop and do what i need ? or is there a way to do e-reader syncs and all through the web thing ? |

I don't do Device syncs. As a matter, I don't do Auto backup/sync.
Been to many times I have seen those have been garbage because of a Set and Forget mentality. I only have a tiny subset of my Library on any 'reader' device (and not the same ones). I free file Mirror sync my 'Main' Library to my NAS, Laptop and another PC. Even that can't protect against what just happened in LA County. |
