Plugins and calibre versions

Can a way be developed so if a plugin is not compatible with calibre that it won't be shone in the Get new plugins dialog and that the dialogue will show what calibre versions the plugin works with? Thanks.

That would require quite a bit of work and as was pointed out by Kovid Goyal, would be mostly needed by abandoned plugins.

I think it would be needed when a plugin gets updated and stops supporting an older version of calibre that someone is using because they cannot use a newer version (such as on MacOS).

Jon, the minimum version of calibre for a plugin to work is already supported. The discussion that BetterRed linked to was a suggestion that a maximum version of calibre supported by a plugin be added similar to the already supported minimum version found in the __init__.py file in the plugin .zip container.
