Ebook Viewer Issue (W11)

Hi all,

I just reinstalled Windows after switching out an intel processor and mobo for an AMD processor and mobo. In the previous install, I had used Calibre with no issues. However after the fresh install, Calibre now refuses to open up ebooks for view from the main library.

I have tried using calibre-debug -w in cmd, and that is able to open up ebooks with no issue. I'm confused as to why Calibre Library gets stuck on "Loading book..." when calibre-debug does so perfectly fine. I've tried with both 7.15 and 7.23 and both display the same issue.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Try a reboot in safe mode and see if it works there first.

I rebooted into safe mode, and am able to open ebooks from the Calibre Library without issue. What could be the cause of this? I have the latest Nvidia drivers for my GPU from the Geforce Experience app, so I don't think it would be related to that (as I saw from other forums drivers were mentioned)

Okay nevermind, apparently rebooting into safe mode, opening an ebook, then relaunching windows regularly somehow fixed the issue, and I can open ebooks without issue now. Thank you kovidgoyal!

I'm stuck with the same issue, also using a Nvidia GeForce graphics card: GeForce 9600M GT on Windows 10.

I have tried rebooting in safe mode, but that didn't help. I have also tried disabling the GPU with:

QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--disable-gpu"

For the moment, this, too has not worked.

I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Best wishes,

Brian Poole
