Move metadata to new Kobo Sage and KOReader installation
With or without using calibre. I've searched and researched here and other sites, but have failed at all my attempts.
Can anyone outline a procedure to accomplish this goal? |

What kind of device are you moving from? Also a Kobo? And what do you mean by "metadata," the settings in general or book metadata?
There is also some relevant information in the User Guide (http://koreader.rocks/user_guide/); search for "Backing up your KOReader settings". |

Moving from an almost failed Kobo Sage. What I want most is the history from the old Sage and the read/unread status. In calibre, I have Kobo Utilities and KOReader Sync configured properly according to information I have gleaned from sources here, the KOReader Github pages, the KOReader Sync Github pages, and other places.
The most puzzling and disappointing factor in this to me is in connecting my new Sage to calibre, and learning none of the configuration I've done with respect to the old Sage is applicable to the new Sage for whatever reason. Because the USB port has almost completely failed on the old Sage has seriously limited experimentation I must ask around. I have copied the disc contents and saved to a folder on windows. Initial experiments have resulted in failure. Efforts to copy files, folders and file contents to the new Sage directory have been useless. Once file copy is complete and the device reboots I see no evidence of any changes. Reconnecting and examining file and folder contents reinforce this conclusion. |

Moving from one Kobo to another is simple. Just copy over all KOReader and KFMON/NickelMenu files (if applicable) as well as all books and sidecar folders you were using with KOReader. Including the icons in the root folder of the device, .adds/koreader/* .adds/kfmon/* (if applicable) .adds/nm/* (if applicable). Make sure you retain the exact directory structure on the new device, and everything should work exactly as it did on your old device.
As far as the migration of the Calibre settings to the new device goes, I'm afraid I'm not able to help you with that. I suspect there is some config file for the old device in your computer's Calibre folder that you could adapt to the new device ID. |

Began at the beginning again and walked through the process. Merged history.lua data from 3 Kobo devices into one file. Tested first with the Libra 2 and learned that this worked. Established that an eject, disconnect, and reboot device procedure works better than what I did. Selected the largest metadata.calibre file from the 3 and copied it to the new Sage and the Libra 2. After a reboot, finally seeing what I expected to see.
I suppose I could have done this first. |
