Best conversions for AMZN azw3 comics in Calibre
Amazon US is having a sale on DC graphic novels; I bought The Dark Knight Returns for $2.
I did the my contents transfer to my desktop and drug the azw3 into Calibre. With my plugins it appears to have stripped the DRM. (Quality Check) I try to view that w/ the Calibre Reader and there are some formatting oddities, some black pages or corners of pages etc. I can put this azw3 file into the file structure of my physical Kindle, Kindle for PC and my Kindle app on Android and view it and it looks more appropriate. Converting to epub results in the same initial formatting issues. Is there a preferred output type or conversion setting to handle these graphic novels from Amazon originating as azw3s? Or should I just give up trying to view them in the Calibre reader and stick to those other programs. Thanks - |

This will be a fixed layout book, these arent supported in calibre. Your best bet is to extract the images and zip them up and rename the zip file to cbz.

I don't know if it helps at all, but I recently bought the Batman/The Shadow: Murder Geniuses and dl'd the azw3. I simply renamed the extension to cbz (after stripping the drm) and used cdisplayex to view it.

Use KindleUnpack plugin, it does a pretty decent conversion to ePub fixed layout. Use a viewer like Thorium to check results. For extra credit, you can edit AZW3 to add ToC (most comics seem to lack one even when they are hundreds of pages long) before converting.
I tend to import KFX (using Kindle for PC, at least for as long as that continues to work) and then KFX Input menu to convert to ePub/PDF/CBZ. Sometimes the Kindle format has issues and I take the images from CBZ and recreate KFX from those using Kindle Create and KFX Output plugin CLI and then convert that to ePub etc. Kindle Comic Converter also does fixed layout ePub. But you need to extract the images from the AZW3, and sometimes the sort order of the image files doesn't match page/spine order. Converting to ePub with calibre and then extracting the images usually fixes that. But that's why I'd try one of the other methods: simpler. |

i use the kindleunpack plugin to get an epub and then convert that to cbz with https://github.com/bust4cap/epub2cbz-gui
