Saved Sort Scheme
I'm stumped: when using 'Sort by Multiple Columns' under 'Sort by', how do you use drag/drop to rearrange the selected columns? Might be me but I can't get it to work. TIA.

??? I know of the tweak that affects startup sorting
ID: sort_columns_at_startup Provide a set of columns to be sorted on when calibre starts. The argument is None if saved sort history is to be used otherwise it is a list of column, order pairs. Column is the lookup/search name, found using the tooltip for the column Order is 0 for ascending, 1 for descending. For example, set it to [('authors',0),('title',0)] to sort by title within authors. ![]() I think you can only drag if a tick is next to it. Down below is the effective sort. clicking the arrowhead the changes the direction |

Well I just drag the rows and...drop them. lol
![]() Might be me but sometimes when I look at it, it feels like the arrows are inverted. In the preset illustrated below, I wanted to sort by Publisher (Z to A - descending), then by GR votes (descending, from highest voted to least voted) |

![]() I see scrollbar arrows and field sort direction arrows. Down for decending, just like the column headings |

In my mind, the GR Votes arrow should point down in this case, as the list is sorted from highest to least voted.

What does the column show when you click on its header?

then the arrow points down:
but I mean the arrows in the screencap. Anyway, it's been a long time since I noticed this and the sorting on multiple columns works great, that's what matters! |

To switch ascend/descend in Sort By you have to click the glyph beside the column name in the "Effective sort" list.
I prefer View Manager, Sort By is hard to use if you don't have near perfect hand/eye coordination and fine motor control. BR |

It does switch. But the arrows look inverted to me, given the effective sort produced on the book list

Thanks for helping me figure this out. I was trying to drag the column names listed in 'effective sort', not the listing of checkboxes. So, that's good.
But the triangles in 'effective sort' are indeed reversed from their real meaning and true output. A bug I would say. |

For me ▲ would mean sort ascending (low to high, 0 to 9) and ▼ would mean sort descending (high to low, 9 to 0). That said, I don't know if my definition equates to Sort By's actual usage. I prefer an ambiguity free approach: The 'A' and 'D' icons are my replacements for the VM plugin's defaults BR |

Correct. But the result is opposite, which is wrong.
