ebook fails to load properly

A book in the Kobo library is downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions Library then dragged to my Forma. All appears to go normally.

The ebook does not appear on my Forma. With all retries of the downloading process to my Forma, ADE says it already exists on my Forma.

Any/all assistance appreciated.

Have you tried removing the DRM and then side loading it via calibre?

There was no indication of a DRM issue. I don't have the capability (or desire?) to remove the DRM.

is that my only option?

Where on your Forma are you dragging/dropping the book? Are you using ADE's builtin copy to computer/device or are you manually dragging/dropping? Can you see the book on your Forma in File Explorer?

I connect the Forma via USB. Then in ADE from the ADE Library I drag the book to the connected Forma.

And, yes, the ebook does appear on my Forma in File Explorer. And clicking on it launches it fine so that it can be read in ADE.

Thanks.

Have you tried using ADE's send to computer/device instead? Where are you dragging/dropping the file? Is it in a directory that would be visible to Nickel? AFAIR, ADE will copy the epub to the Digital Editions directory in the root of the exposed partition. Once your Forma is safely ejected, Importing Content should run and the book should appear in your Books.

In ADE, I drag it from the Library to the Forma which appears when the Forma is connected to the system. I have not tried Send option.

This is the first time I have had this problem. As I say, the ebook appears in the ADE folder on my PC, but will not appear on the Forma.

I hope I answered all your question.

Thanks again.

I would still like to know where on your Kobo, you are dragging and dropping the ebook. Is it in the root of the exposed storage? In the .kobo directory? ???

It is where ADE puts it when I drag it from the ADE Library to the loaded Forma.

It is found on the device in koboereader. All the authors are present here and then I scroll down and see the ebooks. I can click on the problem ebook and it loads in ADE ready to read.

I'm sorry I don't know how to say it any clearer unless you give me some further instructions.

I'll try whatever you suggest.

If you send the book from ADE using Send to computer/device, it goes into the Digital Editions directory. If you drag and drop, well, I can't do that from within ADE. If you select a book in the library view, a right click will give you the copy to computer/device option. But for me with ADE 4.5.11, I can't drag and drop to my mounted Kobo from within ADE. Now if I browse to the C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Digital Editions directory, I can drap and drop from there but when I drop it on the Kobo reader, it drops it into the root of the exposed partition. I have to open the drive to see the internal directories to choose where to drop a file.

Given that KOReader is able to find it, that suggests that you are dropping it into a folder that Nickel's ExcludeFolder option does not allow Nickel to access or Nickel's import process does not run. Did you set up a directory for KOReader that is excluded for Nickel?

When you safely eject, do you see the Import process running so Nickel is importing the ebook to it's database?

David, you are getting WAY more technical that my knowledge can cope with.

I have used ADE to drag hundreds, if not thousands, of ebooks to Kobo devices, including my Forma and never had any problem like this.

The drag of this ebook from ADE Library proceeded normally but now can't happen because it determines the ebook is already there (but not accessible by my Forma).

[EDITED TO ADD] I hope future ADE processing with other books will work.

Use calibre to delete that book and try drag/drop again after that.

Calibre doesn't find the ebook. I deleted it from from koboereader on the Forma using Windows Explorer then tried a new ADE drag with the replace option. ADE appeared to process normally but the ebook doesn't appear on my Forma.

Are you disconnecting the device between the deleting of the book and resending it?

What f/w is on your Kobo?

Can you share a copy of the .kobo/KOBO/Kobo eReader.conf?

When the device is connected could you do a dir <drive letter of Kobo>: /s /a > files.txt and share that with us.

I couldn't get the <dir> command formatted correctly to find the files.txt.

Thanks for your help.
