Do I have to perform a factory reset to revert from 4.38 to 4.34?
I'm thinking about going back to 4.34 on my Sage, because since updating it to 4.38 it has developed an annoying habit of skipping a page when using the page forward button.
Question: should I do a factory reset before downgrading? I really, really don't want to, as I have over 2000 books on my Sage. But will there be any danger of bricking my Sage if I just install 4.34? |

I don't think there should be an issue with reverting to 4.34.20097. I'd still do a database backup and backup of the exposed partition but that's my usual paranoia.

Thanks. I'm going to wait a bit more, just to see exactly how much I'm bothered by this. As I don't know in which firmware the bug was introduced (I went from 4.34 directly to 4.38) and 4.37 versions had the database problem anyway, it would be safest to revert to 4.34. The skipping issue wasn't there then, that I know for certain.

It should also be safe to use 4.35. I've been using (and am still using) it since it came out and haven't had any database corruptions.

The page turning on my Aura H2O becomes very slow with successive versions starting from 4.35. So, even if I try the one that comes out, I always go back to 4.34 immediately without intermediate jumps and nothing has ever happened.
That said, you lose nothing by making copies. |

Well, I went back to 4.34 and the bad news is that the page skipping bug still happens. With both buttons, so I don't think it's the hardware.
I guess the next step would be the factory reset and reinstalling 4.34, but I don't know if I want to go to so much trouble. And who knows if even that would help. Grrr. Damn Kobo and their buggy firmware updates. ![]() |

I think I'm going to do the factory reset after all. And if the bug still happens after that, I'll complain to the customer service. Not that I think it would help, but maybe they'll do something in future updates.
One thing I haven't tried is to read an epub - I only have kepubs on my Sage. Maybe the bug is specific to the kepub reader. Scant hope, I know, but still... |

Is it possible that you're triggering the rapid page turn option somehow? Only KEPUB allows that, so if it doesn't happen with regular EPUB, that might provide a useful clue.

I'm going to monitor this a bit more. It may be the buttons, although both at once would be a real concidence and I'm sure I've seen both of them doing it. It may be a bouncy button and a bug in the software both... I'll do the factory reset if I'm sure both buttons really skip pages equally. |

Update: while it still happens occasionally, it does so less often than it did on the newer firmware.
I may try the factory reset when I find the time. The current state of things is not too unbearable, so there's no big hurry. |
