Problem with Tolino Shine 5 and own Ebooks

For many years I have produced my own EPUB via Calibre and read them on various different tolino readers. That unfortunately is over with my new tolino shine 5 and its new operating software. I can see that the EPUB is transferred in full to the reader, but when I open it, it shows but one empty page.
Is there any way to get around that hurdle or do I have to wait for a corresponding Calibre update?

What happens if you manually copy an ePub to the device as opposed to using Calibre?
