Premise and goals
I dug up my old Kindle and it's running Version: Kindle 3.3 (611680021) which, if I'm not mistaken, means it's eligible for jailbreaking. But certain options could lead me to update it instead. What I want out of my e-reader:
Thoughts & current knowledge level I got this in 2012 and have used it sparingly every couple years bc of single device limitation. I really want to be able to pick up where I left off on a book or manga anywhere I am (eg. phone reading on the bus instead of mindless scrolling). I'm under the impression that if updated to a more modern firmware I'd be able to sync content (even content I manually uploaded onto the device via Calibre) to other devices I own via Amazon's kindle cloud platform. However, I'm currently finding it difficult to make manga formatting look good/correct, and have heard ppl describe it being easier when using KOReader on-device. The additional compatibility KOR would bring would also be appreciated for epubs I like the current formatting of. Question/tl;dr -Does Kindle cross-platform syncing only work with the newest, untampered firmware + OS updates? -Is having KOReader on device mutually exclusive with Amazon syncing the Mobi or AZW3 files natively on device? Thanks! ![]() |

Try using Kindle Comic Converter for manga. No jailbreak required.

If you are using the native reading app, you can sync but see response above. KOReader will not sync. |

I tried playing with it all morning and I was unable to address an issue where anything I uploaded would have a blank white page between manga pages.
It's a semi-documented issue but all fixes that I've found thus far (on here, reddit, etc) have been able to address my specific situation. I can get into more detail here if you have any troubleshooting suggestions, but I also plan to make a new thread abt it. If I can address this issue it's a perfect match for me |

The blank page might be caused by you being on an older firmware. You can try a usb firmware update. That might fix wifi issue.
Or it might be caused by kcc settings, send a screenshot. Did you try directly copying the mobi to the documents folder without using calibre? Or use the kindle keyboards cbz viewer instead. I think the process is described on the mangle project. You just put the kcc optimized cbz in the pictures folder at the kindle root. Then press the secret keyboard combo to activate cbz reader. Not so much connecting to WiFi though my oldest wireless device has issues with either needing an insecure network or one that uses WEP which is pretty much the same today. I was thinking more of devices whose firmware does not support TLS 1.2 or higher which is required by many websites to allow a secure connection. SSL and earlier TLS versions are no longer considered secure.

the kindle 3 wifi still works fine, albeit you will need to connect to a 2.4GHz network with WPA2 or WEP, so not really that outdated. You must run the latest firmware version otherwise you won't be able to connect to wifi. So far as you log in with you amazon account, everything should work fine (except for the store, which you can no longer access from the device), you can purchase books and send them as normal and whisper sync should also work as normal.
