Kindle App Mod for EInk device(tested on Boox Leaf2)

Hi,

I have made several modifications to the latest Kindle Android app (version 8.85.0.100, build 1.3.296551.0).

The main changes:

• Change the backgroud to pure white. [white mode]
• Redesigned the infocard layout for a simpler and cleaner look.
• Disabled smooth scrolling in various sections of the app, including info cards, the store page, settings, contents, and more.
• Enabled page turning using hardware keys as the default option(volumn key is also supported), specifically optimized for Boox Leaf2 devices.
• Enhanced the functionality of WorkWise and Dictionary infocards, allowing to scroll up and down by tapping on the left and right sides.
• Only keep one hightlight color.

I tried this on my Likebook Mars, and got the message "problem parsing the package". Must be incompatible with my android version which is 8.1.0. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Or is it even safe, given that the person sharing has only that post?

I'd not test it as I don't trust Google's scanner to spot stuff.

I scanned his APK file with VirusTotal. Virus scanner AhnLab-V3 says the file is infected with PUP/Android.Malct.1190475. PUP means Potentially Unwanted Program. Not necessarily a virus or malware but could have undesired behaviour on your device like ads or hijacking your home launcher, restricting access to files & apps in attempts to sell you a "solution" app.

That's too bad, I'd love to have a more eink friendly Kindle app. I use the official Android play store version. It works ok on my Meebook M7.

It would be interesting to run VirusTotal on the stock app to see what comes up.

I run into problems sometimes with a few (out of 90+) virus scanners flagging my own Windows executables when I know for a fact that there is nothing bad in them.

I've reported the OP
