Kindle Unlimited 99 cents for 3 months Amazon US
https://www.amazon.com/kindle-dbs/hz/subscribe/ku
or go to the Kindle Unlimited page on the website while logged out, see if you qualify. Today's deal 3 months Current price:$ 0.99 Original price: $35.97 Renews at $11.99/month afterwards until cancelled. As always with Amazon, YMMV. |

Can this be added on top of the one month I have left for having purchased a Kindle Basic? |

Probably not. Usually these offers only apply to new subscribers or Amazon customers who have not used an offer "in a while". Only Amazon knows who gets the benefit or not...

There seems to be no way for an existing KU member to pay for 6, 12, or 18 months. This has always been an option for existing subscriptions, because I've always paid for at least 12 months, which had decent savings over paying monthly. Now my subscription is monthly, $11.99 + tax.

That seems... a lot. For what you get. When one considers that one could join a good OverDrive library for substantially less. (Like Ohio's! Which I assume is free to you.) I know OverDrive means juggling wishlists and waitlists, but the books are so much better. I also can't help thinking that an only month-to-month subscription means that a lot of people work up a KU wishlist, join, read madly for a month or two and then quit, letting their wishlist repopulate for the next attack, when they'd rejoin for a discounted year or half year if it were on offer. I also also
can't help thinking that the psychology of under $10, as in $9.99, is a lot more appealing than $11.99.Granted, I'm not KU's target customer. But I've been toying with the idea of reupping at a promotional rate because I'd like to read the Atlantic. It seems, however, that Amazon doesn't want my business at 99¢/month.

Hubby may "gift" me a KU subscription, but all 3 options only save $1 per month.

Our local library is free. Anyone resident. Also they pay per loan royalty on paper or ebooks to Authors (All Irish & UK Libraries). They have to buy the ebook licences and paper books from publishers, and can't source donations or Charity shops (thrift in USA?).
Amazon gets the content for KU for free and Amazon decides the "pot" to be shared to authors, based on content qty read, not per loan, so more invasive of privacy, and unfair compared to UK /Irish system. It's a commercial subscription library, something that died for books over 100 years ago in UK and Ireland. |

It’s been years since I paid full price for KU, I take advantage of the offers when they came along, and usually I’m eligible for 2 or 3 each year. I will never understand the business model of amazon regarding the offers but I’m happy to take advantage of them while they last. |
