Pleasantly surprised

I just had a nice surprise. It seems KOReader properly handles CMYK images with embedded profiles (at least on the PC, I don't care that much on my grayscale reader). Something neither Firefox nor MComix currently (see https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...o-rgb/79322257).

It's really just the underlying library.

Probably https://github.com/libjpeg-turbo/libjpeg-turbo.git since you linked to something talking about JPEG.
