Kindle author sort

I feel like I'm probably missing something very simple.

I'm sending books to my kindle via email and when I have my author set as first name last name in calibre, they'll sort on the Kindle by first name. When I switch the author name in calibre to last name, first name.. they sort correctly on the kindle BUT then when I connect my device to calibre, I have to manually match every book because on the device, they show up as first name last name on the device

Is there something I can use in the plugboard to get it to send as author last name, first name in the email while remaining firs name last name in calibre?

I hope that make sense.

The Kindle driver has a tick box Use Author Sort (set that when the Kindle is connected)

WHY! are you using e-mail when you also use USB? That leads to the issue you see. Pick ONE.

If you choose email. The plugboard (for email) should also set Authors to Author sort.

I'm not transferring anything via USB.. I only hook my Kindle up to calibre to see what I haven't yet transferred yet.

As for the tick box, the only place I'm seeing a tick box option for use author sort is for mobi output. As I can't send mobi files anymore, I figured that was pointless and there is no option for epub. Unless I'm missing it somewhere else.

It's easier to create a custom column for displaying which books have been sent, than connect your Kindle every time.

I did it with the plugboard. I knew I was missing something simple.
