Authors are duplicated in author_sort

When I downloaded metadata for my library, one of the sources, I believe B&N, added each author (and editor, translator, etc) twice in the same book's authors field. I deleted these manually before saving them.

I hoped the author_sort field would update accordingly after saving. It did not. I have many titles with the same author listed twice in author_sort (but not in author). Thes authors are entered twice in each single book.

How can I batch remove these, and ideally prevent this from happening again? Thank you.

You need to click the button to the right of the Author, (in the Metadata Editor) to recalculate the sort.
In bulk mode (multiple books selected), There is a tick box under Authors
If the values are already correct, just tick: OK

That was simple. I kept hitting the "Manage Authors" button instead. I must change the resolution of this display...


When you say bulk edit, do you mean bulk import? If so, what's the best way to batch-fix these existing entries in otherwise pristine collections? I'll keep looking at the tools in the meantime. Thank you.

He means bulk edit. Select a batch of books, right click, hover on Edit metadata, select Edit metadata in bulk. Check the tick box under Authors labelled Automatically set author sort. Click OK.

You don't even need the right click menu (for Bulk) if multiple books are highlighted
