EPUB + .DB file Calibre can't open

Hi y'all!

I'm not even sure if this is the right forum to ask, but here goes.

I have an ebook I'd like to transfer to another device. Did some digging and found the files on my original device, and they are an ePub file as well as a .db file.

When I try to open the ePub file, calibre has an error and can't open, and won't open the database file either.

Did some digging around, and it seems the entire text of the book is in the db file, so I assume the ePub has all the formatting? I can view the text in the db file using an SQlite browser.

I'm wondering if there's a way to combine or merge the two files to be viewable?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What book is this? What device? Where did the book come from?

Purchased the book through a publisher's website, but it only allows viewing through their app - Openpage by Excelsoft. I can use it offline through an android or iOS app (tablet app), but I'd rather take notes using a PC.

Unless you want to remove all of the text from the database and build the ePub, you are out of luck. There is mo easy way to combine both into an ePub.

Ah, that's unfortunate. Thank you for the super quick response!!

Would that also mean that the epub is encypted? Or is that just another form of DRM?

Maybe I should have just gone the Amazon route

I would say it's another form of DRM. Otherwise there would be no need for this app and to strip the ePub and move it to the database.

Yes, getting it from Amazon would have been a better idea.

Does it make a difference that the ePub file is 7x the size of the db file? Or is that just extra? Can I assume the ePub file still contains the book?

I really doubt that. EPUB is a self-contained format. All the text MUST be stored within the EPUB file itself. The DB file is probably used to store other kind of information, like your annotations, bookmarks, or even DRM related info.
