Hello,
I use Calibre 3.4 in my Win 7 sessions on my computer (Win 7 Pro 64bits). This is the system I use the most ( having there most of my software). I have installed a parallel Win 10 64 bits partition, because one of my essential software can no more run in Win 7 with the new features I need. Only reason I have. Win 11 not an option ( hardware is ''''obsolete'''' ...) But my Kobo Libra 2 while detected by Win7 was not by Calibre 3.4. So I tried under Win 10 with Calibre 7.4 installed, and copied in another folder my ebook collection ( just to be sure no problem could happen to my Win7 database ...) Question is : can I simply use the same folder under Calibre 7.4 and 3.4 without compromising my database ??? That would be quite simpler of course. TIA to expert users ![]() |

I think you are asking for trouble. 7.x added data things that 3,4,5,6 are unaware of, making the risk of disconnecting that data.
Why not host the content server on the 7.x system and use a browser on anything to use your library. If you set up accounts in Calibre, that controls what can be done. |

IMO you'd be better off migrating to Win 10 as your primary OS, and only keep a Win 7 partition for essential applications that will not run on Win 10, and for which there is no alternative… which would be rare. Providing you're willing to accept what are secondary differences such as the partial replacement of the Control panel with Settings, and a different looking Start menu, it is not hard to make Win10 look and feel like Win 7 without resorting to add-ons. And some of the utility tools in Win 10 are way better the Win 7 offerings - the file manager, screen grab, and clipboard history are three that spring to mind. BR |

They are definitely not compatible. Version 4.23 introduced changes in the database that were not compatible with older versions. While versions newer than 4.23 can read database from older versions, the opposite is not true.
I remember back after 4.23 some people who used the new database with older calibre versions reported problems with the database being unreadable, even when they returned to the newer version. |

If you want to stay on Calibre3 and can update to version 3.48, then you can use the KoboTouch348 driver.

I agree 100% that you would be better to make Windows 10 your primary operating system. Then you can use calibre 7 and not have to worry about the database. |
