Sending typos from an e-reader to Sigil

When I'm (proof)reading a book on an e-reader and I find a typo, I would like to be able to mark it and when I am done, send a list of typos to my computer. I would then like Sigil to jump to each of the typos so I can fix them. I currently use Aldiko and iBooks but could switch. How do other people work with this and are there any suggestions on how it could be made to work?

Having a Sigil app that allows editing would be awesome but not very feasible. The way I’ve found is to use the app/reader’s ability to make highlights/annotations. Depending on the reader’s capabilities you can either transfer/sync the annotations file to your computer, or just sequence through them on your reader while you fix it in Sigil.

I don’t know of any automated method… that would take a fairly advanced program to deduce the error from the annotation.

You’ll need to find a reader/app that has those abilities. The one I use is no longer available on Apple’s store

Or do your proofreading before finalizing the epub using PageEdit or one of the E-reader plugins that work in Sigil.

Never on Apple as they do not allow QtWebEngine only their own Webkit. So a rewrite would be needed. But you can do screen "hand-off" where you can share your Desktop screen onto your iPad and iPhone on your own home network. This goes in reverse and allows you to take phonecalls on your Mac from your iPhone.

Using these tools you can use an iPad (phone is a bit too small a screen to edit with) to share/handoff PageEdit from your Mac Desktop to your iPad.

No ideas about Android phones or with Windows boxes.

I can imagine such a validation plugin, which loads a file with typos, recognizes consecutive typos, searches for them in the text, and then displays the findings in the Validation Results window, which allows you to quickly jump to the relevant part of the text.

This can be a simple task or a bit more difficult (some programs export the text cleaned up and there are no NBSP and SHY, for example, and/or all dashes are converted to hyphens).

The idea is nice, but it is rather not worth making a combo for all applications that export selections (requiring maintenance), rather separate plugins for each program.

Maybe someone will find this idea interesting to create such a plugin. Or maybe you can try it yourself?

Then we'd have to figure out how to get unzipped epubs on your phone/tablet so PageEdit could open the opf.

You can install Remote Desktop or similar on your phone/tablet and connect to pagedit on your desktop. Your phone's screen might be too small.
