Kepub and read progress with Calibre web

Hi,

I'm new to this community as well as to the Kobo. After reading that syncing with Calibre Web is possible I had to buy it, which I did.

Now I'm successfully syncing some books over the air with the lovely Clara HD. Then I got confused. Everytime it went back to reading a book, I was back at the start of a chapter.

I'm using epubs and then I somewhere read that I should convert them to kepubs. I then activated the /usr/bin/kepubify bin for Calibre web. But that did not change a thing.

When going into editing Metadata I cannot convert from epub to kepub. Do I have to reimport all my files? What am I looking at here?

No need to use kepubs.
There are two ways to to kepubs with calibre. Either the extended driver and USB transfer or a plug in to make them.

But I find the kepub format annoying. It does let you zoom images and sometimes footnotes popup rather than jumping to them.

I, too, love this kobo-sync feature of calibre-web.

I had this once, and I'm not sure where it came from. Deleting the ebook on the device and re-syncing solved it. Perhaps you should re-setup the whole synchronization, now that you have kepubify installed. It should automatically convert the epubs to kepubs.

Thank you. The deleting is also weird.
When I delete it from the Kobo then it will never get synced again.
Calibre web is configured to only sync one shelve to the reader. When I delete it from my Kobo and do a sync, it will then get deleted from the shell instead...
Something is acting funny.

The book is then marked as archived. Just un-archive it (checkbox) and put it again in the kobo-sync-shelf, if necessary. (I'm not so sure about that yet either.)

I cannot find that archive flag. Where do I have to look?

Go to "Archived Books" (left column) and open the book details of one of the books. Other than in the screenshot, the flag "Archived" should be set. Just uncheck the flag.

The archive flag was not set.
I reset my kobo to factory and configured sync from scratch. Now everything seems to go smooth. Thank you for the help.

Can you use kobotouchextended with calibre-web directly or does there need to be calibre in the mix too?

Yes, you can use kobotouch extended with caliber web directly. Also, you can use it in the mix too. The choice is yours.
