Kobo Site Account Archives: Confused

I just took a look at my Kobo account's Archives and I'm a bit confused:
  • There are books in there which I've bought. I'm assuming those are the ones labeled "FINISHED." But, often, there's another copy labeled "PREVIEW." If I delete the Preview, does that affect the bought, Finished copy?
  • There are other books in there which I haven't bought from the Kobo Store (I bought them elsewhere and sideloaded them via Calibre). It's possible I read them first from the library and decided to buy them afterward. But, they're not even labeled "PREVIEW." They just say "Buy Now $x.xx" I assume I can safely delete those?
  • And, there are even a couple of books with the "Buy Now" prompt that I don't remember reading at all. But, that could just be my memory. But, I'll ask just in case: does Kobo stick books in our Archives on its own as a sales technique? I really doubt it. But, again, I assume I can just delete those.

I only have my Kobo purchases in there (all of those, as I sideload everything and archive my purchases to keep them from cluttering up my devices). No previews or buy-nows. I don't read library books.

If you have borrowed a library book, when it is returned, you will get a preview of the book which allows you to keep your annotations and/or book marks.

When I return library books, the Kobo replaces it with those Preview versions, but I immediately delete them (no annotations or anything in them). I'm just surprised it keeps a copy in the Archives. I guess I'll assume I can delete the Previews from the Archives without issue. If something bad happens, I'll report back.

I can't be certain of this as I've not seen it myself, but I suspect deleting the previews wouldn't affect the other copy.

If it does, you should be able to go back to the book's store page to re-add it to your account. (If the book page no longer exists, might need to go through Kobo support to get it back.)

I filtered the Archives to just show Previews and manually deleted each one. It didn't seem to do anything bad anywhere else. So, it looks like I'm good.

Because I do make annotations, I am grateful for these placeholders that keep my annotations archived on Kobo servers, but they are a pain to deal with because of the clutter. I do all my management on the website. It’s simply faster in the browser than the Kobo ereader.
