KOBO Elipsa 2E Templates

How many templates do you get. Is it better than BOOX and the Scribe?

You mean Elipsa 2e. The templates are for sketching in Basic Notebooks which only export images (the PDF is an image). The Advanced Notebooks have conversion to text, equations, shapes and checkboxes. ON THE DEVICE. They can export as docx, html or text only, so don't use templates as that would be meaningless. AFAIK the Scribe has nothing like the Advanced Notebook. The reMarkable (either model) is like the Basic Notebooks but with more drawing options like layers and touch keyboard text. It seems to export PDF only. The Elipsa and Sage are the same.

I now use only the Sage as it's a handier size for me and I mostly use only the Advanced Notebooks. On Elipsa, Elipsa2 and Sage you can use Swipe down to go between an epub and an Advanced notebook, if both recently opened and ebooks not added. Then it's easy to highlight epub with finger type a number, then save, then swipe down and add note with that number with pen (in a suitably named Advanced notebook), double tap to convert to text, export text, swipe down and back to ebook.

The Templates are just sketch pads. Export to PDF and then only printable.

No cloud / Internet / Server is needed with Sage / Elipsa /Elipsa 2E, unlike Scribe, though they can use Cloud export/Sync.

I like my Sage and Elipsa 1 BUT the templates suck. The line spacing is too wide even if i narrow it

I must have missed the release of the Kobo Libra 2E. When did this happen?

The OP has already stated that was an error. Get over yourself, Jon.

Edit: I've corrected the thread title.

My device came in today and boy was it a waste of money. I was thinking we would have new templates the first generation didn’t have. NOPE. everything is exactly the same except the pen is so much better writing experience and I have a warm orange light. The pen on the first generation is so clunky it’s almost impossible to write with it.

What you corrected was the title in the first message. What I corrected was the title shown for the thread. For my sins, I now seem to be a moderator for the Kobo Reader forum so I could change the thread title. See the attached image for the two different places.

I've used 3 different models of "Pen" including the Kobo one on the original Elipsa and the Sage.
It's fine and fine for all family members that have tried. There are now five Sage users in the wider family and the writing is fine for them and others that have tried. A few have tried my Elipsa and find it better than the reMarkable, but that Sage is a handier size for notes, drawing and reading epub novels.
All agree that have tried the Wacom on the Lenovo X201 screen, bamboo and earlier serial Wacom and reMarkable that it's far better.

Maybe you had a faulty Elipsa or a faulty pen?
Two models of pen are 3rd party cheap ones sold for MS Surface (I think model 3 to current), but without the extra Bluetooth connected button on later MS Pens.
Only the Elipsa has the Kobo pen. All the Sage users have 3rd party pens, but there seems to be no difference to using those on the Elipsa or the Kobo pen that came with the Elipsa on the Sage.

The pen with the Elipsa 1 gen is hard to hold and my hand wants to keep pressing the side buttons drove me nuts. I have a microsoft pen but I broke the NIB on it. Even still the surface pen does not flow well when writing. The pen with the 2E is so much better

Faster processor. Comfort Light Pro. Better stylus. You’ve basically listed all the advantages the Elipsa 2E has over the original…and the reason to buy it.

I hope to upgrade from the old Elipsa to the new one, personally, but I wanted to upgrade my Clara HD to the 2E first. (Aside from the sluggish light controls, I’ve been very pleased with my upgrade.)

As for new templates, everything that the Elipsa 2E has, the older version also has access to. There were several threads about the topic. Lots of coverage. It’s a shame that you missed it. In the future, I’d recommend searching the forums before buying. Still, I’d love to be able to create my own templates for Basic Notebooks. That would be a great addition. I wonder if Kobo would release new template packs, or let third parties offer them.

Hopefully, you’ve come to enjoy your Elipsa 2E’s speed and comfort light now. I’m a bit envious of you.

For some reason I was under the impression the 2E had more templates but the better stylus made a big difference. Writing is so much easier. The stylus on the 1st gen drove me nuts. My fingers kept accidentally hitting the side buttons. I still prefer writing on the Scribe and Boox. I wish B&N would come out with a note device.
