Request: Add drag & drop to 'Data files'

I much appreciate the addition of 'Data files' to Calibre, though I find adding files to it is a bit cumbersome:

right-click on title -> hover over 'Edit metadata' -> move to 'Manage data files' -> click 'Add files' -> navigate to where you have your file(s) and add.

Any chance we could get a drag & drop - at least to the 'Manage data files' pop-up window?

Cheers and congrats (as usual) to a wonderful app!

Select your book. Press the O key. In windows explorer make the data sub folder if it doesnt already exist. drag and drop to your hearts content into that subfolder.

Thank you for your response. Sure, this may save a few clicks.

Still, I can't help comparing it with the ideal of simply dropping any file onto a selected book in Calibre and - automatically - have it added to a 'data' folder.

Don't take me wrong - I'm delighted with or without such a feature.

Cheers and have a good day!

How would I differentiate between a cover image that I want to replace the current cover image and a cover image that I want to add to the data folder as a alternative cover? I'm not sure if calibre is quite up to reading my mind to decide where to place a file.

I could see a (skippable) confirmation dialog with choices between the two, at least for image files and all the common eBook formats.

Since the overwhelming majority of my drags and drops are adding cover images or edited copies of ebooks, I would find a location & confirmation dialog annoying every time I dragged and dropped a file. Even a single click to skip would add unneeded complexity.

Yeah, if done (which isn't likely, but eh) it'd need to be a skippable dialog, ideally per-format.

And, if you add the Open book folder tool to a toolbar or menu it's even easier than that, when Open book data folder is clicked calibre will create the folder if it doesn't exist and open it. And of course it can have its own shortcut - e.g. Ctrl+O.
