Calibre won't launch properly W11
I'm on Windows 11 and last week Calibre 6.25 worked just fine. I tried to open it Thursday and it appears it would launch, but the window would never fully open. I tried the alt-tab over to it, etc, but it would never open. I uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted: nothing. Friday had the update 6.26 and it did not fix the problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled a few more times, ran CCleaner, did the calibre-debug --default-programs unregister, deleted a bunch of keys in the registry, deleted folders and whatnot and still nothing. I have another user profile on this computer and it launches perfectly there, so clearly there's something I'm missing here on this profile. Turned off my AV/firewall (Webroot). Tried launching in airplane mode. Nada zilch zippo.
My debug looks like this: Quote:

It may be on a (Missing) second monitor.
Is there a 'calibre' on the taskbar? Click it to make it the active window: Alt-spacebar: M Now tap the Left arrow a number of times (lost Off to the right is most common). Did it come onto the screen? finish positioning: enter |

calibre 6.26.0 does work with Windows 11. I'm running it on my laptop that runs Windows 11.

OH! Hey there it is! I thought it was stuck and I was about to force close and relaunch! I am definitely copy/pasting your reply and saving it in my book editing notes txt file. I never would have thought to try this on my own but for the threads here because I only have one monitor and I ignore "second monitor" solutions. But if somehow it *thinks* I have a second and I don't, I shouldn't ignore second monitor solutions. Thank you so much! |

I've had several programs that have decided to act as if they were on a second monitor on computers that had only one monitor attached. So, yes, if something opens off screen, it can be on a second monitor or the starting position for the windows is off screen.

It could do that if it thought you had a verrrry hi resolution monitor for a short period, then things got sane but the value was already saved1920 is wide enough for me (I have seen some of those ultra wide, curved Game monitors )

Or if you have multiple workspaces (an option even on XP). Calibre seems to open on whatever is the current workspace, but Chromium opens on whatever workspace it was last opened on, which gives the illusion of it not opening.
All sorts of weird stuff can happen, like if a power glitch as you move or close a window. |

On Windows 10 you can retrieve hidden windows via the Taskbar context menu->Cascade windows option - which is a darn sight easier than hit-or-miss moving of something you can't even see via the keyboard arrow keys.
Apparently the Cascade feature is absent on the Windows 11 Taskbar, with no obvious replacement Ψ³ BR |
