Problem with Calibre and new pc

Ranman5308
I use Calibre to email my New Yorker subscription to my Kindle. My old computer died so I reloaded the latest version of Kindle on my new PC. I get the following error message when I attempt to send the NY'er to my Kindle.
Can anybody advise how to fix?

Thank you.

Problem with Calibre and new pc

I apologize for my clumsiness. I am a junior member. I only infrequently use this forum, so I am not really familiar with its protocols. Due to my relative ignorance, I would welcome any help that you may be able to provide.

As I said, I use Calibre to email my subscription to the New Yorker magazine to my Kindle Paperwhite. My old computer recently died. I then reloaded the latest version of Calibre onto my new PC. When I go to "Fetch News", find the New Yorker, and press "Download Now", I just get an error message, which is attached below.

I don't know if I need to change any of the settings on the Preferences/Sharing/Sharing Books by email page. I have EPUB and MOBI listed in the Formats section. The box for autosend is checked. I completed the "calibre can optionally use a server to send mail" section as follows:
Hostname: smtp.gmail.com; Port: 465
User name: the email address previously entered for "send email from"
Password: the password for my email address
Encryption: SSL

These are the settings that I used successfully on my old computer using Windows 10. My new desktop computer runs on Windows 11.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.
Error message is attached as a pdf below.

Have you set up an application password for calibre on your new computer? I seem to remember on one occasion, trying to use the app password from the old computer triggered a certificate error.

Thanks for your response David.

As I said, I am somewhat of an ignoramus both with respect to Calibre and MobileRead.

Not sure how to set up an application password for calibre on new computer.

I googled it without success.

Thanks.

A quick Google search on 'gmail app password' gives quite a few hit. You might want to check Sign in with app passwords or How to Generate a Gmail App Password from Your Account.

The app password has nothing to do with calibre but rather is a way of authorizing to a Google service such as Gmail without needing multi-factor authentication.

I gave up on direct access to Gmail after they blocked standalone POP3 & SMTP. I went to Gmail web page for each gmail and set up forwarding to non-google email.
It's not about security, it's about Google wanting to know more about you.

I generated a Google app password for the new computer. I inputted the Google app password along with my "send from" gmail address in the Preeferences page of Calibre. Regrettably that did not work.

Thanks for your suggestion. I was cautiously hopeful that would work. Alas, it did not. Same "error" message as before.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks to all those who have replied to my thread re Calibre poblem wih new pc.

I included my error message with one of my \ earlier threads and I thought from that someone on this forum would be able to help me solve my issue.

It appears to me that there are some folks on this forum that are way smarter than my feeble intelligence. Hence, I thought one of you could help me solve my dilemma.

While I appreciate those folks who weighed in, I had the distinct impression that all considered me to be a lightweight and not deserving of their time.

That's fine. I hae hoped to get some legitimate help rather than being dismissed as a dummie. So be it.

It the proctor deems this thread to be offensive, that's fine with me, since I have not gotten any meaningful help here anyway.

Adios.
