Series metadata not showing in BookFusion and FBReader
Hi everybody
I'm in the process of looking for an alternative reader for Marvin3. Yes, I know that it still works, but I just want to be prepared when an upcoming iOS or iPadOS release won't support it anymore. I'm already experiencing some difficulties with Sync between devices. The only real alternatives seem to be either BookFusion ("BF") or FBReader ("FBR"). So I've started experimenting a bit. This is when I noticed that somehow the metadata about series that I have in Calibre didn't show up in BookFusion and FBReader. However, it clearly shows in Calibre (latest version on Mac OS) and also in my CalibreWeb OPDS Catalog that runs as a docker container on my NAS. But - no such information on BR nor FBR. I then installed the "Manage Series" plugin, selected all books of a series and basically overwrote (rewrote?) the information into the ebooks' metadata. That apparently did the trick, when I uploaded the files again to BR and FBR the series showed correctly. Some more testing showed that the series metadata is displayed correctly on some other books, without me having to use the "Manage Series" plugin. Is this a known problem? Almost all my books are bought at Amazon, by the way, and liberated (which is completely legal in my country) before being imported in Calibre. Some books that I buy on Amazon do not have any DRM (as per the author's wishes), and I also occasionally buy books at Baen, which so far as I know doesn't use DRM on principle. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, though. I mean - it's not such a big deal, I can run the books through the plugin. But I used the "Sigil" app to look at an ePub file before and after I ran it through the plugin and didn't see any differences. Am I the only one with this problem? Regards Fermin |

No. I had the problem with Marvin3 too yesterday. For some books the series info wasn’t shown and rewriting series info and reembedding didn’t help - ePub to ePub conversion did the trick.
I‘m a noob regarding ePub formatting, but I saw in the calibre editor that in the opdf-file series info was missing, even after the reembedding. There was some gibberish info Edit: I bought MapleRead as an alternative app, but I’m not really happy with it Last edited by Wiggo; 04-24-2022 at 11:51 PM. |

I tried MapleRead, not a fan. Based on the metadata handling, BookFusion so far is my favorite. However, FBReader has the better reading interface - which, in the end, is more important. I spend most time *reading* the book, not looking at its' metadata. Regards Fermin Regards Fermin |

Came across your profile from your post on Marvin. I am aware that you have found an alternative that you prefer due to the one time payment. However, do you have any feedback you would like to share about the reading interface? Also, did you manage to figure out how to get the series information to show? |
