Does amazon ever remove files?
Does Amazon ever remove files in your collection? That is the files you uploaded to your amazon account to be shared among devices like kindle for android and amazon kindle paperwhite. The reason I ask is because I find it tedious to transfer files from usb to my kindle and prefer to download the files after they are sent by email to my main account.

The last time I am aware of that Amazon removed a file was when they removed unauthorized ( a polite way of saying pirated) versions of 1984 and Animal Farm from Amazon accounts and Kindle ereaders. They did give refunds to their customers and pointed them at legitimate copies of both books.

More to the OP's question, there's never been any report that Amazon has removed Personal Documents from your account or device (side loaded or via send to kindle).

Margaret Mitchell died in 1949.
The book was published in 1937, and this site thinks it's Public Domain https://www.globalgreyebooks.com/gon...ind-ebook.html The removal seems bizarre as Amazon said in future (after the George Orwell debacle, btw he died in 1950) they would only remove titles from further sale if an issue, not from the user. It's not as if it's an illegally sold ARC of an unpublished novel by current author, but even then they should compensate publisher/author. It's gone when they have sold it! It's THEIR problem, not yours, if they sold something they shouldn't have. A good reason to always remove DRM and make a backup. Always download not rely on direct Kindle "whispernet". In some countries Amazon's action would be illegal and it's up to them to pay damages or placate a copyright holder, as they retail. It's immoral and abusive to remove a sold and supplied digital good. Even with counterfeit physical goods it's the seller that has liability. Product recall due to hazard is a different category and usually voluntary. Last edited by Quoth; 07-21-2023 at 07:25 AM. |
