PB Basic touch (624) internal memory busted?

Hey, guys, I've had my pocketbook basic touch (624) for some 5+ years now but not really putting it to much use in the recent few. About 3 weeks ago I was getting ready for my vacation and decided to put some books and fanfics to the e-reader for better reading experience by the pool than reading on my phone. However, something must've gone wrong when trying to transfer the files to my reader because Windows explorer (I have windows 10) froze on me and I wasn't able to get it unstuck. Even when I tried to get my computer to restart, it ended up being stuck on restarting until I unplugged my e-reader from the computer, which I blame for the issues happening to it now. I think what looked like a picture of an sd card appeared on the screen of the reader but then I restarted it and it seemed to work fine. The files seemed to have transfered okay, I was able to open them and all was good.

Only once I got to my vacation I started noticing the e-reader being wonky. I was able to read the fanfic I saved there, but every time I'd turn off the e-reader, the file wouldn't stay open where I stopped reading (despite that being the setting) and if I tried to create a bookmark, it would also disappear upon turning off. Every time I turned on the e-reader it would also show me that I have new books added, but it was always those files I'd already opened. At least I was able to get through my vacation and read the fanfics I put there, even though I had to mark where I left off on my phone but I decided I'd look into it and maybe do a factory reset at home.

Well, I tried and nothing happens. I try to do a factory reset and nothing happens, nothing resets. I tried to wipe the memory, nothing wipes. If I put a new file on the e-reader it seems to be added but I can't open it and once I turn off the reader, the file disappears. I found the option to create a new profile but again, once I turn off the reader, the profile disappears. Basically there are no changes I can do, at most I can read the files I already have there.

Since this e-reader is way past its warranty and I don't use it that often, I wouldn't really bother with trying to send it off to get fixed somewhere but if there is anything you think I could try at home, I'm open to ideas.

This does sound like the internal memory has failed and gone into read-only mode. There are a couple of threads in this forum describing how you might replace the memory if it is a micro-SD card that you can take out. It is a lot of work, though, and not for the faint of heart. Still, you can give it a shot and see if you can pull it off. I would recommend that you do not try to write to the failed card anymore, though. Just take it out and copy the contents off of it if you can, and only use the copies when modifying and creating new images. It's not as simple as just copying the card to a new one, though, as there are anti-piracy measures in place to make that fail. Take a look at the other threads and ask questions there.
