Minor problem that bothers me with Kobo

I noticed in a recently purchased book that a problem with chapter graphics. The book has a little sword hilt that displays above the chapter heading (for example, Chapter 1). On the Kobo it shows the graphic on the left margin instead of centered on the page like the chapter heading is.

The book was cheap so I bought it also on my kindle and it displays it properly, graphic centered (left/right) on page above the chapter heading. Saw physical book at bookstore and it has the graphic centered so I know that is "correct".

The rest of the text looks great and I know it is a minor issue but it is a bummer.

What book is this? Did you change the justification in the Aa menu to left justify? If you are reading KePub and you change the justification to left, that would cause the problem. Turn off the justification if it's set.

I have the same book on my Kobos. The sword hilt is centered (justification is off).

Why would you buy it again for your Kindle instead of converting? The problem is user error and not your Kobo.

Thanks to all that suggested justification, yes it was the justification option being on (left justify). As for why buy on kindle instead of converting... It was cheap enough to buy and see if Kindle had same "problem". When converting, there is always a chance something does not convert properly I assume. I see posts from time to time in which the solution presented is editing the file, etc.

Glad it was just "user error", I'm still not used to all that can be done with my Kobo.

This sounds like one of the things that can be fixed by patching libnickel. Without the patch you often see this in books which uses a centred asterisk/dingbat between sections in a chapter.

The kobo patch tool calls this "Un-Force user text-align in div,p tags in KePubs:"

I just leave justification always off. My preferred alignment (justified text) is specified in the css, so I never need to use the device option.

I should know this, Chris, so my apologies, but where does one get "the kobo patch tool" you refer to?

Is this it? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=352447

Many thanks!

You can use this tool or patch directly from here:

Note that the patches for the 4.38 firmware are not out yet.

I'm trying to figure out how it is "user error" to expect the chapter headings to be centered when reading with justified text. I always read with justified text. I haven't noticed this. Does it depend on the book?

Do you read kepubs or epubs? AFAIK it's a kepub issue.

This cannot be fixed with patching. It can be fixed by editing the CSS to set the justification as you want.

There's a new firmware recently released. IMHO. best to wait for the new patches which I hope will be available soon.
