Calibre's Locking is still Broken

Calibre 6.21 and still a problem.

I've edited the eBook. Saved the eBook and closed the editor. Deleted the original_epub file. Went to the metadata editor and edited the metadata. And I'm still getting an error. This eBooks was not open in another program.

Can we please say this isn't working and back it off?

Simply close windows explorer after you are done deleting whatever you deleted. Or delete original_epub from within calibre.

Are you sure that there is nothing else locking the drive? Something like LockHunter can help identify this.

Additionally, if I'm remembering rigjt Windows itself can put a lock on the external drives - there's a setting where you can pick 'quick removal' or 'performance' and this can affect it.

EDIT: Googling is 'helpful' as ever (I entered 'file lock' and got results for 'password protect') but see this:

I have searching indexing turned off as I only have SSD or microSD local to this computer.

I've never set quick remove or performance on any Windows computer.

I have no idea what happened.

But I did try again using the networked drive and it worked this time.

A USB external drive with NTFS on Windows is likely OK, if maybe tricky the past to eject. But Fat32 or ExFat might give issues.

"Quick Remove" (vs "Performance") used to just turn off Cache. Shouldn't matter.
