Disable "Recently Opened" feature?
Hi, I think was mentioned somewhere before but I cannot find it. So please forgive me...
![]() Is there a way to disable the "Recently Opened" feature that appears when you swipe down from the top of the screen while reading a book? |

The solution is to not swipe down from the top. There's no other reason you would swipe down other to switch to another book or see what's in the list.

IIRC, there's a "disable recently read' option in reading settings. I don't have my Kobo on me at the moment to check.

Just don't swipe down. You can tap to get get menus or swipe left or right. Generally I never use the "Swipe Down for Recent" (which includes the last added, not just opened) unless I'm using two related textbooks or an Advanced Notebook I'm using for notes for a book more than I'd want in annotations. It's easily ignored. |

"Don't swipe down" is a poor answer. It's not enough of an issue to annoy me, but every time I see that list, it's because I triggered it by accident. The swipe down detecting is *very* sensitive. Maybe Kobo should adjust the threshold that triggers the swipe action.
Not to mention a pseudo reduction in privacy. (I say pseudo, because someone else looking at the kobo can always sort the library in most recent order, but that would require deliberate effort vs. kobo just throwing it out there.) There is an option in Privacy settings to disable recently read books show appearing in 'Discovery' tab, (whatever that is,), but this does not prevent kobo from displaying recently read in the swipe down. Settings - Energy Savings and Privacy - unclick box for "Discover Tab".

That SHOULD work, but it doesn't seem to.

Edit: Discovery is not on the menu if "SideLoadedMode=true" is in config. I've activated Swipe Down once by accident, and I can't see any privacy issue with it. Last edited by Quoth; 06-16-2023 at 02:02 PM. |

My fat fingers usually trigger the feature when I try to adjust the brightness or font.
Touching slightly above any icon will display the "Recently Opened" feature. |

The only way to disable it is to roll back to firmware 4.33, since the menu was added in 4.34. I got so tired of triggering the recently opened menu by accident every time I tried to check the battery status that I added a battery option to the reading menu with NickelMenu to avoid the problem.

In theory, I like the "recently opened" feature. It's just that the way it is currently implemented makes it useless.
Instead of showing the last three books added to the device, it should show (in order):
