Unhappy No 'are you sure?' when removing downloads?

I've been looking for a while, but haven't been able to find an answer; is there any way to disable the 'remove download' option, or do something so that Kindle at least asks 'are you sure' if you tap that option?

It's so easy to do by mistake (I'm disabled, my hands don't always do what I tell them to do, sometimes I miss the option I'm actually going for) and as someone whose entire library is side-loaded, it's a pain to have to side-load a book I accidentally removed - especially since I lose all my notes (and I make a TON of notes when reading). No other device I've ever owned didn't have a confirmation pop-up when you're deleting something.

I'm using a Paperwhite 10th gen, firmware 5.15.1.1. Not holding my breath, but really hoping there's a fix for this.

One solution is to use Calibre and only remove eBooks using Calibre when your Kindle is plugged into the computer.

Like I said in the post, I'm not removing the books on purpose. I am disabled, I don't always have fine motor control, and too often I tap the 'remove download' option by mistake.

When I want to remove something, I do it with Calibre, yes. But I'm asking because I would appreciate an 'are you sure?' message as a failsafe for when I accidentally tap 'remove download'.

You can try suggesting improvements to Amazon, but there is no way to know if anyone actually working on Kindle software will see them. Otherwise, unless you are an especially computer hacker, there is no way to modify the software in your Kindle to provide the feature you want.

I assume that you are aware that 'remove download' only removes the book from your Kindle device - it will remain in your Kindle Library on the Amazon cloud and can be downloaded again if you wish.

There is a 'remove permanently' option that does include an 'are you sure you really want to do this' check.

You could you send-to-kindle to put books onto your device instead of sideloading via USB. That will provide a backup of your books and annotations in Amazon’s cloud and enable an “are you sure” popup if you accidentally try to delete something. There are some downsides to loading your books that way but it would solve this particular problem.

I'll give it a go, but as someone who works in tech I, too, am pretty sure customer/user feedback doesn't get to the actual programmers. It doesn't in the company I work with.

I do know that 'remove download' only removes it from the kindle, yes. It's just that when it's a sideloaded book, that means it's gone until I sideload it back again. (99% of my books are from Amazon, but I de-drm them to fix fonts etc because sensory processing issues. Much fun!) And I did know that 'remove permanently' has a confirmation check, which I appreciate!

Thank you! I will definitely have to experiment with this, didn't realise that send-to-kindle saves annotations as well! Might be worth the fiddliness. Genuinely, thank you!

It would. I miss my kindle keyboard 3rd gen very much, but the backlight in the paperwhite has been a worthy trade-off until recently. (I kept the wi-fi off for years, but eventually slipped up and then it updated from what was a perfectly ideal UI. Sigh.)

I don't think any of the later models have keyboards, do they? Not that I can see from a quick search, at least. But it might be worth finding a good second-hand device...thank you, another good idea to investigate!

There are no modern ereaders with keyboards. But there are many ereaders both past and current with buttons. Kindle Oasis in its various incarnations, Kobo Sage, Libra 2 (current), Forma, Libra H2O (past), and I think all Pocketbooks.
