Hello,
I bought an Oasis 3 10th gen, end of 2019. I am very happy with it. Love the screen, the buttons, the reading comfort. Always updated it, and I am on the latest firmware 5.15.1.1. A few months ago, problems started to occur and I could solve most of them (I am writing it here in case this can help someone) : - The page were turning themselves. Sometimes when I was clicking the forward button, it was moving one to a few pages forward. It was not consistent. I tried to reboot it, do a hard reset, clean the screen. Nothing was working until I decided to cleaned up the buttons and put some alcohol on them to make sure nothing was obstructing them. It looks like it solved the problem. Most likely this was caused by using my kindle in my pool, I found some calcium deposit in the charging port. Some deposit must have been accumulating in the buttons. - After I solved the first issue, it started to reboot on its own while I was reading. This was most likely caused by the hard reset that I did and the books that I copied back on my kindle (I copied them directly from the /documents folder, and I did not add them back on Calibre for example). I deleted the books from /documents, and re-imported the KFX from Calibre only (sounds like the problem here was about the metafiles that are in the /documents folder) - Another problem occurred, my kindle was freezing, not waking up in the morning. The battery was discharging very fast too and sometimes completely dead in the morning. The kindle refused to sleep, even if I was clicking on the sleep button. The green light was showing, but the kindle was wide awake. I took a while to understand that most of it was caused by the official leather case. It must be something with the case's magnet that is not causing problems to the Kindle. I removed the case, and now I don't have those problems. After all of this, I still got one issue. My kindle is now really slow to sleep when I click the sleep button, or it simply does not sleep. The green light shows up but the behavior is not really consistent. It's either sleeping after 10s/20s delay, or it stays awake. A temporary solution that I got is to actually reboot the kindle in the settings when the kindle refuses to sleep. After a reboot, it looks like it can get into sleep, even if the 10s/20s delay is still there. Any one got anything similar happening to their Kindle? Thanks ![]() |

The skipping pages thing happens to me now and again, but only when it's on it's reading pillow, never when I'm holding it. I assume it has something to do with pressure on the edges from the pillow.
It also reboots occasionally, usually when I've paused my reading. It will be sitting next to me, a book open, and it just reboots. That seems to be happening less and less...or I'm just not noticing it. |

I have been battling the rebooting issue for over 10 years, starting with my Kindle Keyboard and continuing with every upgrade including my current 9th and 10th generation Oasis devices. Amazon thought it was defective hardware but when I went through 3 new devices in a 5-month period I concluded the problem was design constraints that I apparently hit.
I have a very large library - currently approaching 28,000 volumes - which I keep organized in collections and prefer to keep as many volumes as I can downloaded to my device. I believe the rebooting has to do with indexing. It would begin occurring when I hit the halfway point of downloading my library and took excessively long to complete the process. I found things improved significantly if I limited collections to 300 volumes, kept it in Airplane Mode unless I actually needed to download or sync, and kept it plugged in when it rebooted. This theory seemed to hold true until the Oasis, when the file structure changed. After two years of trying to load it the way I want the Gen 10 reboots itself so often I can't count on it being available for use when I want to read, so I am still using the Gen 9 while I try to figure it out. It has some other issues too so that's why I finally joined Mobileread, to see if I can get some answers. Last edited by jmstruwe; 05-20-2023 at 06:21 PM. Reason: Clarity |

My 10th gen Oasis started misbehaving - random re-boots, refusing to wake up, unreliable & slow response to button presses and screen taps. I had over 2000 books loaded, from various sources, all side-loaded via Calibre.
I decided it was time to start again, removed everything and reset the device. I re-loaded just a couple of hundred books - unread and current interest and adding new ones as and when. The device now performs faultlessly. My previous reader, kindle paperwhite, had similar issues when crammed full of books. I know these devices have the memory capacity to store enormous numbers of books, but they're much happier not filled to the brim, and much easier to browse and navigate. I really don't need to carry my entire library on my reader. They're all safe and sound on the laptop and backed up elsewhere, and easy enough to transfer when required. |
