Kindle Epub vs Standard Epub

I got a bunch of free books via bookfunnel, and most of them include the new kindle epub format in addition to the standard epub format. My question before I import them into my library is, is there any substantive difference between kindle epub and standard epub? If there isn't any difference, then I would see no point in putting the kindle epubs in calibre, and just sideload them manually if I really want to use them on my fire tablet.

The .kindle.epub tend to have a mass of media queries in the CSS to allow Amazon to do a better job of converting to KF8/mobi and rather often multiple copies of images in high and low res. They are not readable by a Kindle ereader or app. If you are reading on a Kindle app or device and using Send to Kindle or similar, the .kindle.epub would be a better choice. Otherwise, just use the standard epub.

Ok Thanks, well then it sounds like there's no reason to import the Kindle epubs into my calibre library

Depends on what you want to do with the books. One friend of mine imports the .kindle.epub files since he often uses Send to Kindle or one of it's cousins to send ebooks to his phone, tablet and ereader.
