saving epub to thumb drive in router
I am using calibre in Ubuntu. I can save backup via ctrl-alt-s to thumb drive in the computer's usb port, but the thumb drive in my router does not show up under ctrl-alt-s. (I realize this is not a just-calibre kind of question.) When I copy the epub file in Nautilus I can easily paste it into the router's thumb drive for backup. For some reason the router's thumb drive does not appear when using calibre's backup. Not a biggy. Just curious. Best regards, Pop

Because it's a network share. A locally connected USB drive is a local drive. Calibre tends to only "see" local drives (USB Mass Storage, IDE, SCSI, SATA), not networked "shares". An ereader or gadget using USB Networking also seems invisible). USB MTP are best accessed as a Device that's not mounted to the File Manager, not Calibre to Filesystem, but a thumb drive is likely USB Mass Storage.

I see my (Synology) Cloudstation in Calibre (w10)
I will assume the USB drive has been mounted and the user has rights to that mount |

As long as the OS can see the drive, calibre should be able to write to it.

It will depend on what file dialog you end up using on Linux. It could be kdialog, or senity or the Qt file dialog. They each have different levels of support for different things in their UIs. But you should still be able to just type the absollute path to the file in the dialog to force it.
