Some criticisms and questions

Hi,

I installed KOReader on my Libra 2 and while I love the options once in the book (status bar, style tweaks, gestures, navigation, etc), I have to say that the KOReader library leaves a lot to be desired compared to the default Kobo library.

I miss the one tap library search and the collections/series tabs.

I expected a little better than a file browser-like display. 16 pages of authors is anything but convenient.

It's also impossible to sort my books by series order and name.

By the way, it lacks quite a few sorting options:
  • By number of books for each author/collection/series.
  • By number of words/pages (data available thanks to the "Count Pages" Calibre plug-in.
  • By reading status: unread, in progress, finished ("Sort by percentage" does not seem to work properly. The authors are sorted alphabetically.)

Any way to transfer reading status/location of each book between default Kobo and KOReader please?

Does the use of KOReader have an impact on the battery life?

I think I know the answer but is it possible to read a book with KOReader but browse the library with the built-in Kobo interface?

The program is open-source and written by volunteers, so if you know Lua or are willing to learn it I’m sure that contributions would be appreciated.

I’ve personally never felt the motivation to work on the library screens as I only keep a few books on my device at any one time and don’t spend much time on those screens.

The filemanager is designed that way: as a filemanager. That's a very strong design stance.

You may or may not like it, but it isn't going to change any time soon (and, if it did, it wouldn't be as the filemanager, it'd be as something new) ;o).

Metadata concerns are relegated to plugins (e.g., you can browse by calibre metadata).

I have a one way (KOReader -> Nickel; because I only read in KOReader, and ultimately where I want this to be tracked is in calibre, not any of my devices)
Python script for my own use-case.

But, no, nothing stock, as this would involve poking at an extremely complex and platform-specific data source (the Nickel db).

No. You can enable autostandby if need be (although that may come with some caveats on your device, read the help message).

This will disable the native reader of course, but it will serve the purpose (searching only..)

That would involve setting up a bajillion inotify watches, which is not terribly efficient .

But, most importantly, there's way too much incidental accesses to stuff, it would be brittle as all hell.
