All Fonts Gone
Roughly two weeks ago, I got my new Sage and set it up. One of the things I know I did was set the fonts in my books (all sideloaded):
Fonts: - Georgia - Font Size: a bit past the middle - Line Spacing and margin = 0 - Justification = OFF See the following for all of what I did: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...1&postcount=58 Yesterday, I noticed that my fonts looked odd, but didn't do anything about it. Today, I started another book and, again, the fonts were odd. So, I opened the in-book menu and hit the Aa (i.e., font) button. The only font face showing is "Publisher Default". Supplmenetal is listed at "None selected" and its list is also blank. Going to Advanced also shows Font Face as "None selected" and its list is empty. This is true for every book I've tried. Since I set the my font stuff initially, obviously it was there before and has now disappeared. Any idea what happened and how I fix this? I'm on the latest firmware: Firmware 4.35.20400 |

Solved?
I brought the Sage out of Sideload mode by connecting my wifi. I hit the Sync button many times, but nothing changed. So, I rebooted the thing and tried a Sync again after it came back up. Lo and behold, there were my fonts. Set it back to Georgia and everything seems fine. Weird. |

It's happened to me a few times, and I don't use the sideloaded mode. Restarting the Sage fixes the problem, no sync needed.

Never seen this on Sage or other Kobo.
Never "sidedloaded" fonts. Any fonts referenced by the ebook are always embedded and sub-setted using Calibre. Are you putting font references to sideloaded fonts? One reason to never do this is that it's only going to work for your own kobo. I might share on edited PD ebooks to more than ten other people with a mix of Kobo & kindle models. We make ebooks too and the embedded fonts will work on any Kindle using azw3 or KFX (Aa menu/theme allows Publisher), any epub reader using ADE and better epub apps on iOS and Android. Very many ereader models and apps have no facility for extra fonts to be added outside the ebook file. |

No, I don‘t refer or embed fonts, I just sideload them. I'm the only one who reads the books, so I don't bother embedding. The vanishing fonts issue happens rarely enough that restarting is not too much trouble. Perhaps 2-3 times since I bought the Sage in October 2021.

In my case, I haven't added any of my own fonts. I edit every book and remove all references to specific fonts. I run strictly with the fonts that are (supposed to be) on the device.
It's odd that in the year and a half that I had a Forma, I never saw this. But, I can't think of any way the built in fonts disappearing could be associated with specific hardware. Of course, I believe that Kobo did make some kind of changes to built-in fonts with recent firmwares. Maybe this is a bug associated with those changes. |

So they vanish from the font list?
I'd never see that due to (a) never using the Font list (except straight out of the box out of curiousity) and (b) I've never sideloaded fonts on any ereader or gadget (such as Android). Due to DTP activities I did reach the limit on fonts on Windows For Workgroups 3.11, but that was very long ago. |

Yep. In my no-sideloaded-fonts case, all those drop down lists that were supposed to show font faces were entirely empty (besides Publisher Default and None Selected). I also very rarely look at the font list. But, when the text in the books I was reading started looking non-nice, I decided to look.

Three days later and it just happened again. I'd just finished a book (and the fonts were fine). I connected to Calibre and sideloaded some other books, properly disconnected, opened some totally unrelated book and the fonts were gone. As before, restarting the Sage fixed it.
The other thread here talking about this is also about it happening on a Sage. And, it just re-occured there, too. |

Downgrade to 4.34. It seems 4.35 makes it happen more often.

Is there somewhere official to report this as a bug to Kobo? The only "Contact Us" options I can find on their web site are chat, phone or social media that I don't have. On a previous occasion, I used the email ( help@kobobooks.com ) noted at the top of the stickied "Kobo Bug Thread" here in the forums. But, I got no reply (or action).

I've used the phone for a warranty issue and they sorted it.
