Kobo Libra 2 problems
In the last few weeks, I've developed a problem with my Kobo Libra 2 logging into the 6.10 calibre library by means of the calibre content server. Up until around 23 November, everything worked fine, now it can't detect any of the 14 books that I've added since that date. Other devices I have can connect and show those books without a problem, it's only the Kobo Libra 2 and my older Kobo Glo (both with the latest software). This started happening before the Kobo software update of 8 December 2022.
Any thoughts? Have I overlooked something basic? I've searched through the forum in the Calibre and the Kobo-specific areas and have not found anything relevant. |

I'm not sure what firmware you are referring to, but the Kobo has:
Kernel Version: 4.1.15-00838-g349fbf5767c #90 SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 15 15:12:23 CST 2022 |

The 4.35.x FW for Sage is Kernel 4.9.56
It's more normal to quote and easier to find the Firmware Version Settings -> Device Information: Software Version: |

So it was really the software version that was requested, not the firmware version as asked?
Software version: 4.35.20400 (73cfa09552, 12/8/22) "The 4.35.x FW for Sage is Kernel 4.9.56". I don't know what "Sage" is. |

Kernel Version: 4.1.15-00838-g349fbf5767c
It's ONLY the Kernel Version. A monolithic install of the entire system to ROM or Flash is called Firmware and will include applications. Software more usually refers to components separately added or swappable by a user that's not part of the OS (Operating System). The Kernel is only the foundational core of the OS. The Kobo Sage is the 8″ ereader with Digitser and pen. |

I don't have a Sage, I'm using a Libra 2.
Yes, thank you, I'm familiar with the difference between software and firmware. JSWolf asked for the firmware version, and that is what I posted. I'm still looking for an answer to the question of why I can't see any of the books on my Kobos (Libra 2 and Glo) devices in my calibre library via the content server that were added after 23 November. I can see them if I connect on either my Android phone and my iPhone. |

I'm not familiar with the Kobos, are you using the full library view or the mobile view? And try doing a hard refresh in the browser on desktop browsers that ctrl+f5 not sure on the kobo.

It gets even weirder. I've discovered that the problem occurs on both of my Kindles and both of my Kobos. I copied my database from my Mac to my Windows machine and run calibre on Windows, and the problem persists. The only difference I've noticed is that the Mac version says I have 7249 books in the database and the Windows version says 7149. But with a blank Search field on the Kindle/Kobo and doing a Search, they both stop listing books at one particular book. I have deleted that book and the one before and the one after and restarted calibre. After a restart, all three of those books still showed up in the list on the Kindle and the Kobo, but both were no longer in the calibre (6.10) database. I'm using the mobile view on the Kindle/Kobo, as the alternative does not load on either of these.

Quote:
Install the portable version of the latest version of Calibre 6 on your Windows machine. Do not copy your settings to the portable version. Create a new clean library and copy all of your eBooks from the other library to it. Then try sending eBooks to your Kobo and see what happens. If it works, then you'll know for sure it;s something to do with your Calibre setup on the non-portable version. |

Macs (and Linux) have a case sensitive file system. that can be an issue.
Try running Library maintenance: Restore Database (that reads the metadata.opf in each folder and rebuilds the linkages) |

Yes, strict case sensitivity is only an option on NT (inc Win2K and later) because the windows that used FAT (win9x, ME, win3.x and earlier before 1993) can't do case sensitive.
I got caught out on it with Samba on my Linux server because by default it uses Windows default case sensitivity (none), so I had to edit the config. Back in NT 4.0 in 1996 I experimented with turning on case sensitivity. It broke badly written SW that didn't use correct case for system stuff. |

The problem is fixed, although I don't know the process behind it. I was using this address to connect the browser to the calibre server (which had previously worked):
http://192.168.1.30:8080/mobile Somewhere in the process I did get connected with an ePub reader on my phone, and I noticed that the address was: http://192.168.1.30:8080/mobile?library_id=Calibre1 I typed this into the address field on both the Kindle Voyage and the Kobo Libra 2 browsers and suddenly each could display all my books and I could download all the latest ones. I have no idea why one works and the other does not, but now I know the cure. Thanks. |
