Problem after re-installation - Calibre looks for a removed disk
Hi
I have a strange problem. I'm a long time user, but I can't see how to solve this issue. I'm running Calibre on a very small server, with an external usb drive "d:". Recently the drive stopped working and I just removed it. I wanted to change the location of the Calibre Library, but Calibre refused to run. I was surprised. I was expecting an error message, but nothing. I uninstalled Calibre, and re-installed it. Same issue. I then try the debug feature, and the result is attached. The process ends on a File not found error: [Win error 3] Path not found: 'd:\\' Please note the d: I don't know what to do. Is there a registry entry than can cause this problem ? Thanks Gaston |

Try starting from the command line (to get it started, them you will fix the Location for a normal start)
Use the library located at the specified path. Code:
calibre --with-library <"path"> to set the new location And also use the REMOVE LIBRARY <old name/location> to stop Calibre from even trying. (this only removes linkages from not in use libraries) |

Thanks theducks
Calibre still doesn't start. Same error message. Please see the attached screenshot. Any other ideas ? I installed it on my laptop, pointing on the same location (it's a NAS), and it works.... I'm lost, Gaston |

Thanks theducks.
I finally found out what was going on. A long long time ago I set a system variable : CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY d:\Media\Calibre\CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY (see attachment) I don't remember why I did that at the time! What is the difference between CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY and the Calibre library directory ? Thanks again, Gaston |

The Library is what it says (Books and settings (possibly) UNIQUE to that Library)
The settings folder is about YOUR (general) settings and plugins |

Thanks
And is the location of CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY linked the location of the Calibre library ? If I well remember one was beside of the other ? Do I have to know where it is ? Thanks, Gaston |

The config directory contains the Last used Library, which is why it starts there (for those of use that have more than one)

When I start Calibre and it's trying to access a directory that doesn't exist, I get a requestor so I can point Calibre to an existing library or create a new one.
The OP should start Calibre from the GUI and not the command line. |

By default, calibre stores its configuration data (global settings, plugins, overrides etc) in a directory named %APPDATA%\calibre, where %APPDATA% is a Windows controlled environment variable, which is typically set to C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming.
The CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY environment can be used to override the default location. If the calibre configuration folder is inaccessible when calibre starts it will run its Welcome-wizard. Amongst other things the wizard tries to build a fresh configuration folder; if it is set, it will try to build it in the location referenced by CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY. BR |

First of all, I confirm that everything is now working.
@JSWolf The problem was the point below. It was not possible to execute the GUI. Quote:
It's really a great support. Gaston |
